Telangana: Holiday declared in Medak district as heavy rains kill 3

Hyderabad: Amid heavy rains in Telangana, three persons in the Medak District died in the aftermath of heavy rains in the state. District collector S Harish announced a local holiday as several places were cut off as water overflowed onto the roads.

According to the police, the deceased person identified as Rayben Yadav (50) and Bikari Yadav (45), migrant workers from Bihar state died after a wall collapsed at Reddypally village in Chegunta Mandal on Saturday. A third person who drowned in flood water at Vallabhapur in Narasing Mandal was declared dead by the doctors.

Two other workers Dinesh Das and Goutam Yadam Yadav have sustained serious injuries in the wall collapse, in Chegunta Mandal.

The Vana Durga Bhavani Temple Edupayala was shut down because of the large inflows of water into the Manjeera River brought on by the severe rains. The temple was filled with water.

Farmers from Regode Mandal who had crossed the Golla Vagu at Marmpally were left behind on the opposite side of the creek. The authorities were asked to assist the farmers in securely crossing the creek. The low-lying districts of Medak town, including Auto Nagar, were completely flooded by the rain.

After 267 mm of rainfall in Medak, the situation in the district became dangerous. Waterlogging clogged all most all roads in the district.

Apart from Medak, other districts including Jangaon, Mahabubabad, and Sangareddy too received heavy rainfall in less than 24 hours i.e., from 8:30 am on July 22 to 7 am on July 23.
