Shashi Tharoor slams ‘Hindi, Hindu, Hindutva’ ideology: Here’s how BJP reacts

New Delhi: After sparking a row by making a controversial remark on ‘holy dip’ at Kumbh, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor triggered yet another controversy by targeting Hindutva forces in the country. He tweeted that “Hindi, Hindu and Hindutva” ideology is dividing the country; and claimed that India needs unity, not uniformity.

Reacting upon Tharoor’s comment, the BJP on Thursday accused the Congress of insulting Hinduism as part of its “designed conspiracy to demean” the culture of India. It also warned Rahul Gandhi against it. Alleging that Tharoor’s tweet is very objectionable, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra called Tharoor as the blue-eyed boy of Rahul Gandhi. He further said, the Congress always endorses what Shashi Tharoor says.” Patra alleged that Tharoor’s comments are not accidental misadventure but are a designed conspiracy to demean the culture of India.

It must be recalled that few days ago, the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram had mocked Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath’s holy dip in the Sangam at Prayagraj. Tharoor took to twitter to swipe at the UP BJP leaders and captioned an image of them bathing at the Sangam by saying, “Ganga bhi swachh rakhni hain, aur paap bhi yahi dhone hain. Iss Sangam mein sab nange hain. Jai Ganga Maiya ki! (Ganga has to be kept clean and sins also have to be washed there. In this Sangam everyone is naked. Hail Goddess Ganga!).”
