Shabana Azmi’s mother Shaukat Kaifi passes away

Mumbai: Veteran theatre, film actor and writer, Shaukat Kaifi breathed her last on Friday. She passed away at her residence located at Juhu.

According to the report published in The Hindu, she died in the arms of her daughter, Shabana Azmi.

It may be mentioned that she is known for her work in movies, Garm Hava, Umrao Jaan and Bazaar.

Expressing grief, the official twitter account of Rekha, a website for Urdu poetry tweeted, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of #ShaukatAzmi, a prolific Indian theatre and film actor whose impactful performances in films such as Umrao Jaan, Garam Hawa and Bazaar will be fondly remembered. #RIP”.

Biography

Shaukhat Kaifi was born in Hyderabad State. Later, she got married to Urdu Poet, Kaifi Azmi.

The couple had two children, Baba Azmi, a noted cameraman and cinematographer and Shabana Azmi, an actress.

Kaifi Azmi was a member of the communist party. He worked for the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) and the Progressive Writers Association (PWA)

In the mid-1950s, Kaifi began working as a writer and songster in films.

Shaukhat Kaifi also appeared in a few movies.

Kaifi Azmi died in 2002 whereas, Shaukhat Kaifi passed away today.
