Screening of ‘Ram Ke Naam’ triggers unrest in UoH, 6 detained

Hyderabad: Screening of the controversial documentary, ‘Ram Ke Naam’ had triggered unrest on the campus of the University of Hyderabad. Six students belonging to the All India Students Association (AISA) and the Students Federation of India (SFI) were detained.

According to the report published in the New Indian Express, police also stopped the screening of the documentary which was taking place at Sociology Department’s lecture hall.

It may be mentioned that police came into action after university administration reportedly complaint against the screening of the movie which was directed by Anand Patwardhan.

However, the students of the University claimed that the university authorities had accorded permission for the screening of the movie.

They alleged that the police have seized the laptop. When students started protesting, police detained a few of them, students added.

Cyberabad Police officials said that the students were counseled in the police station.

Ram ke Naam

Ram ke Naam (In the Name of God) is a documentary movie by Indian filmmaker Anand Patwardhan.

He received several national and international awards for the movie.
