Army personnel arrive after a firing incident was reported in Kashmir's Pahalgam
Srinagar: One person was killed while six tourists were reported injured in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, April 22.
“My husband was shot in the head while seven others were also injured in the attack,” a woman survivor told PTI over phone. She did not identity herself but pleaded for help in evacuating the injured to hospital.
A little earlier, security forces rushed to Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam tourist town after gunshots were heard. The area can be accessed either on foot or horseback.
It is the peak tourist season in the Union Territory. Pahalgam is best known for its forests, crystal-clear lakes and sprawling meadows.
Apart from this, registrations are in full swing for the upcoming 38-day Amarnath Yatra, set to begin from July 3. The 48-km Pahalgam route is mostly taken to embark on the spiritual journey. The other is 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district.
