AAP using Waqf Board funds for minority appeasement: BJP

NEW DELHI: Accusing the Aam Aadmi Party of allegedly misused Delhi Waqf Board funds to appease the Muslim community, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday filed a complaint with the Election Commission.

According to The Hindu reports, a delegation of BJP leaders met the Chief Election Commissioner and filed a complaint against AAP leaders including party convener Arvind Kejriwal for influence polling ahead of the polls by distributing crores of rupees to the imams and muezzins in the name of raising their honorarium/salary.

“The Delhi Waqf Board passed a resolution during operation of model of code of conduct authorising withdrawal of money from bank account of the board through signatures of any two among the chairman, any member and chief executive officer (CEO),” Mr. Gupta quoted The Hindu as saying.

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta, said that “The BJP delegation demanded that the EC ban the poll campaign of Mr. Kejriwal, Kailash Gahlot and Waqf board chairman Amanatullah Khan till May 10 for appeasement of a particular religious community.”
