Former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union, Kanhaiya Kumar hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a gathering on the occasion of Independence on 15th of August.

Drawing parallels between Britishers and Narendra Modi, Kanhaiya said as the Britishers had entered into India by promising that they will bring development by establishing postal departments, laying railways tracks and roads etc., but looted India and made the citizens of India their slaves, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also came to power by promising development but did nothing.

Claiming that instead of bringing development in India the Britishers looted India but treated Indians themselves as second class citizens by putting signboards on restaurants ‘dogs and Indians are not allowed’, similarly Modi government is driving out Indians, whose ancestors were also Indians, out of India in the name of NRC. In the third instance he says as the Britishers ruled over India by adopting divide and rule policy, the present BJP government is doing the same by dividing the people in the name of religion.

Kanhaiya Kumar urged the citizens of the country who voted for BJP to ask the government, where is development they promised for? Where are 2 crore jobs? What happened to the black money? And why 15 lakh rupees were not deposited in every citizen’s account?
