J&K police inspector injured in Srinagar terror attack dies

Srinagar: The J&K Police inspector injured in Srinagar terror attack in October, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday in a hospital in Delhi.

Officials said that inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani, who had been shifted to AIIMS, Delhi, succumbed to critical injuries.

Wani was injured in a terror attack when he was playing cricket in the Eidgah area of Srinagar city on October 29.

Terrorists had fired at him from close range while he was playing cricket with the locals.

He had been battling for life at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar since October 29. He was shifted to AIIMS Delhi on Wednesday where he succumbed on Thursday. His body is being flown back to Srinagar.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir DGP RR Swain said that the death of Inspector Masroor Ahmad has strengthened our resolve to redouble our efforts in the fight against terrorism.

“This tragic incident strengthens our resolve at the J&K Police to redouble our efforts in combating terrorism,” the DGP said.

He said that the attack on a policeman is a stark reminder of the vicious mindset perpetuated by terrorist networks operating at the behest of Pakistan.

“His sacrifice embodies the harsh reality our J&K policemen face, dedicating their lives to shield our communities from the shadows of terrorism. His memory will forever fuel our determination to dismantle the bones of terrorism in Kashmir,” he said.

He said that the police department has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguard the people of Kashmir and eradicate the menace of terrorism.
