Hyderabad: Osmania University intruder case: One held

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police, earlier this month traced and nabbed an associate of the man, who sneaked into women’s washroom in Osmania University girls hostel with a knife and threatened and misbehaved with a student.

  • According to police, the main accused is still absconding

Police said that the main accused is a habitual property offender and works with an accomplice who keeps a watch outside the premises he targets. The accomplice was identified as S Sunny, a vegetable vendor from Kachiguda, and the prime accused as Pottela Ramesh, 25, who is reportedly absconding, said the police, adding that they have seized stolen mobile phones from their possession.

On August 15, about 3 am Ramesh, gained entry into the hut near Jamai Osmania by keeping Sunny to keep watch outside and committed theft and handed over the cell phone to him.

“After committing the offence, Ramesh then entered into the Girls Engineering Hostel, through a ventilator of the bathroom using an iron stool while Sunny kept watching outside. He decamped with two mobile phones from there and created tension inside the premises” said the police.

On Thursday, the East Zone Task Force team apprehended Sunny from his home and recorded a detailed confession, wherein he stated that he and Ramesh committed theft from the Girls Hostel, OU Campus and the huts near the Jamai Osmania Railway station.

“Ramesh was previously involved in house burglary cases and was detained under the PD Act from Meerpet police station of Rachakonda and Sunny was also remanded in illicit liquor cases by the Musheerabad, Sultan Bazaar and Narayanguda Police and was also detained under PD Act,” the police said.
