Hyderabad: City is getting geared to witness the ‘Sadar festival’ or Carnival of Buffaloes on Tuesday night.
It is an eye-popping event organized every year by Yadav community every year after Diwali. Hundreds of buffaloes with painted horns, shaven body and adorned with garlands and ornaments are paraded through the streets of Hyderabad. They are accompanied by groups of people dancing to ‘theen taal’ beat. The he-buffaloes buffaloes are later directed to perform stunts, much to the amusement of spectators.
He-buffaloes from across the country make their presence felt in the congregation. However, the one from Haryana and Punjab rule the roost with their gigantic frames and majestic appearances.
One such buffalo is the Murrah bull ‘Sartaj’ which is 7 feet tall, 16 feet broad and weighs above 1,600 kilos. The owner of the buffalo told to siasat.com that it is worth Rs 27 crore.
Haribabu Yadav, the organizer of the festival, said that Sadar is being celebrated across Hyderabad for more than 100 years. To attract people, we have started bringing super bulls to Hyderabad from various places. “This time we brought ‘Sartaj’ from Veer Singh of Haryana state. Sartaj is 25 tonne national champion in various competition. We have also brought Shahensha, Maharaja, Yuvraj and its son Dhara in the prevous years,” he explained.
Quoting an example of how a bull is prepared and trained for the festival he spoke about Sartaj. Its weight is 1,600 kilo. We take extremely good care of the animal, feed it with 20 liters of milk per day, three kilogram of dry fruits and 50 to 100 apples daily. It is taken on a walk of about four kilometer every day.
The carnival is mainly held at Musheerabad, Naraynguda and Malkajgiri.
