NEW DELHI: AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday congratulated the new speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha.
While congratulating Speaker Om Birla, the MP from Hyderabad reminded him of his discretionary powers and said he must ensure the elected government does not become a monarchy.
[highlight_text]Owaisi says that the Speaker is a match referee, so do not be part of the game. “Aap Referee Hai, Please Don’t Be Part of the Game” adding he came from the right side, his ideology can be right, but he is requesting him to see left side too.[/highlight_text]
When Owaisi came to take oath on Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs shouted slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram, ‘Bharat Mata Ji’ and Vande Mataram, in response to which Owaisi addressed Jai Bhim, Jai Meem, Allahu Hu Akbar and Jai Hind.
56-year-old Om Birla reportedly is NDA’s nominee for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha. Birla, two-time MP from Rajasthan defeated Congress’ Ramnarain Meena by over 2.5 lakh votes from Kota Parliamentary seat in the recently concluded general elections.
