Dengue claims four of a family in Mancherial

Hyderabad: Belying official claims about the incidence of dengue, the deadly fever claimed the lives of four members of a family over 15 days in Mancherial district.

The fate of the family of Gudimalla Gatturaju (30) , a private teacher living in Srisrinagar, has shaken all residents of the area at the district headquarters. Gatturaju was admitted to a private hospital with dengue fever a fortnight ago.

As his condition worsened, he was shifted to Karimnagar, where he succumbed on October 16th while undergoing treatment. While the fifth day funeral rites of Gatturaju were being performed, his grandfather, Lingaiah, developed similar symptoms and died later of dengue fever.

Fever gripped the entire family of Gatturaju and his five- year-old-daughter Srivarshini died with similar complaints two days later.

Even before the family could recover from the series of deaths, Gatturaju’s wife, Sona, who was in an advanced state of pregnancy, was admitted to Yasoda Hospital with similar symptoms. Sona gave birth to a male baby on Monday night and breathed her last due to dengue fever.
