Canada among top OECD countries granting citizenship to Indians

Indians receive the highest citizenships of Canada.

The United States, Australia, and Canada are the top three Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries that have granted citizenship to Indians since 2019.

According to an OECD report, Canada granted 31,300 citizenships to Indians in 2019. Though the number declined in 2021, the country still remains one of the highest providers of citizenship to Indians. In 2021, Canada granted 21,000 citizenships to Indians.

US tops the list of OECD countries providing citizenship to Indians

In 2019, the US provided 63,500 citizenships to Indians. Though the number dipped to 56,000 in 2021, the country still leads the list of OECD countries that have granted citizenship to Indians.

Australia, which was in the third position in the list of OECD countries providing citizenship to Indians, moved up in 2021. However, the number of Australian citizenships provided to Indians decreased from 28,500 in 2019 to 24,000 in 2021.

India tops list of countries that receive Canada citizenship

In 2022, among all nationalities, Indians received the highest citizenships of Canada.

Apart from that, Indians received the highest number of citizenship from OECD countries both in 2019 and 2021. However, the number dipped from 155,799 in 2019 to 132,795 in 2021.
